Special Tributes
About Katherine WrightKatherine Wright created the stunning watercolors featured in Kirkland’s
Centennial calendar. She is a licensed architect and professional illustrator
who specializes in creating watercolor renderings with pen and ink. Her
philosophy is simple: She tells a tale by incorporating her understanding of a
building or a place in order to interpret the design, setting, focus and mood
through illustration.
A native of Seattle, a long-term resident and self-described lover of Kirkland,
Katherine had always wanted to do a series of paintings of the historical
buildings in Kirkland and the Centennial calendar was just the right project. In
six months she produced the 12 paintings, with each illustration representing
approximately
50 to 60 hours of work. Katherine’s personal favorites include the 4th of July
and the Kirkland Cannery paintings. It is her hope that the calendar will
inspire Kirklanders with a sense of pride in their history, comfort in the
present and excitement about the future.
Katherine exercises her community commitment in a variety of ways. She has
taught watercolor classes at the Kirkland Arts Center and has chaired the
Kirkland Downtown on the Lake Design Committee. She continues to serve her
community through involvement in Kirkland’s Downtown Action Team where she
serves as co-chair of the Lakeshore Plaza committee helping to oversee Marina
Park and its future.
Katherine lives in the Market neighborhood in Kirkland with her husband Chris
and children, Andy and Spencer. She attended the Cornish School of Fine Arts and
received her Bachelor of Architecture (cum laude) from Washington State
University. Katherine’s watercolors will be on display during February and March
in the Parklane Gallery in downtown Kirkland.
